Nothing Left To Lose
Lately we have all been experiencing a strange blessing: Liberation by Powerlessness. It does not matter what we say or do; Trump will whinge and scheme, his cultists will rage and riot, the virus will spread, the Great Grief will come.
But since what we say or do will not affect these misfortunes, we are free to do as we will, without fear or hope of punishment or reward. You cannot negotiate with blind chaos; therefore you do not need to.
So though the authoritarians can harm us, they have no power over us. Freedom is another word for nothing left to lose.
