When and how did the Republican party become Red? That's the color officially assigned them now, and I wonder why. During the Cold War, no way would anyone call them Reds; if anything it was the Democrats who were called that. Now the Democrats are Blue, the Republicans are Red, and as near as I can tell this started with the electoral dysfunction of 2000.
I get the alliteration; R is for Red and Republican. I even concur with the symbolism; angry Red Republicans compared to cool Blue Democrats. My question is, how did this happen? Who gave the go-ahead?
