Give Him That Much Credit

     Give Him That Much Credit

Say what you will against Adolph Hitler - and I’d say a lot - but you do have to admit that Hitler did kill Hitler. Millions vied for that honor, but only he succeeded, at great personal sacrifice. So he deserves that much credit.

One might argue that Hitler was selfish in hogging for himself the honor of killing Hitler, but I’ll cut him some slack about that. It meant that in the end he agreed with the Allies’ opinion of him; so the Allies won not only the fight, but also the argument. Sweet!

But I do have a small complaint: Hitler should have killed Hitler much earlier. If Hitler had blown out Hitler’s brains before the Beer Hall Putsch, then history would have been much different. Hitler did eventually get around to killing Hitler, but it took him 22 more years. How slothful! If only the top Nazi had been more Nazi about the top Nazi, then we might all have been spared Nazism.

I attribute his inefficiency to sentimentality and favoritism. Shame on him!

But, without Hitler and the war he started, computer and information technology be today -- still somewhere in the 1960s?

True, but what’s the rush?

Also, alternate histories can be tricky. Maybe without Hitler, the top Nazi would have been slightly less insane, and we’d have Nazis today.

Oh wait, we do have Nazis today. And they use computers. Never mind...
