Both Sides Now; math verse
Tune stolen from
song by Joni Mitchell
Groups and rings
and fields and things
The way that
intuition sings
Proofs and truths
and superstrings
I’ve looked at
math that way.
But now it’s just
another game
The student’s
tests all look the same
To work like this
seems very lame
For such minuscule
pay.
I’ve looked at
math from both sides now
From learn and
teach, but still somehow
It’s math’s
illusions I recall
I really don’t
know math… at all…
