It is traditional to associate dogs with men and cats with women; and therefore dogs are considered ‘masculine’ and cats ‘feminine’. But that is a misunderstanding of what dogs and cats have to offer their owners.
For what does a dog offer? Love, loyalty, unquestioning obedience, and lavish physical affection. Isn’t that what men desire from women?
And what about cats? They are furry, sensuous, offhandedly affectionate, bossy, independent, and occasionally ferocious. Isn’t that what excites women about men?
So a
dog is a man’s parody of the ideal woman, and a cat is a woman’s parody of the
ideal man.
