City Trees

          City Trees

Some stand alone, holding the ground
Between poured stone and rushing metal.
Others huddle together;
Beyond the grass we see a street.
They sense night light
Hurtling objects
And strange smoke.
They think they live on volcanic land.
To the tree waiting at a crosswalk
I offer a view of green and grey.
