The trouble with fictional world-building

The trouble with fictional world-building is that keeping a consistent background requires constant nullification of all progress. A world that actually solves a serious problem once and for all would be good to inhabit, and even good to write about, but not good to sequelize.
- unless it takes on an entirely different serious problem, but then it would not be the same story, or the same world.  If your plot moves in a circle, then you’ve created a world, and you can sequelize forever, but in vain. If your plot never turns back, then you’ve accomplished something, and you’ve created a history... but really you’ve destroyed a world, and you can tell that tale only once.

The Fix

     The Fix

There is nothing wrong with Islam that can’t be fixed, just like Christianity was fixed some centuries ago, or Judaism was fixed millennia ago. It’s the same way you’d fix a dog or a cat. After slight alteration, religions can be domesticated.

I look forward to similar fixes for state and corporation as well.

Stalked by a Bot

Stalked by a Bot

The phone rang. I picked up on the third ring and said, “Hello, who is there?”
A robot voice said, “Good-bye.”

Several days later, the phone rang, I picked up on the third ring, “Hello, who is there?”
A robot voice said, “I’m sorry, that is not a valid extension.”

After that I picked up on the third ring every time, in the hope of getting a third creepy robot. Finally: Ring, ring, ring, I pick up, “Hello, who is there?”
Silence.

And that’s a trifecta! Have I been rejected by a bot?
