Getting His Gloat
Once upon a time, a Villain tied a Hero to the target of
his Death-Ray Machine. The Villain paused to gloat at the Hero in his clutches.
He laughed in the Hero’s face.
The
Villain spoke at great length of his greatness and his destiny, and of the
Hero’s inferiority and imminent doom. The Hero listened politely, but eventually
he rolled his eyes and said,
“Get on with it!”
The Villain nodded, then turned around to trigger the Death
Ray. But as he turned his back, the Hero slipped out of his bonds, for he had untied
the knots before the Villain’s rant started, and had been waiting for it to end.
The Villain turned back and saw that the Hero had gotten
clean away. The Villain said, “Curses!”
Moral: Whatever you’re doing, please do it.
