“Conservatives” have unforgettably taught me the virtues of honesty, modesty, humility, responsibility, prudence, competence and integrity... by not having them.
Likewise, “Liberals” have taught me the value of courage, and principles, and vision, and critical thinking, and an open mind, and the common touch; Libertarians teach me the value of independence and business sense; Evangelicals prove the value of charity and reverence; in each case by not having them.
The virtues lacked are the ones preached. I charitably assume that what I am judging is the upper class of conservatism, liberalism, etc.; some of those lower down are the real thing, which is why they’re lower down.
