I saw, stapled to a bulletin board, this quote, allegedly by Albert Einstein:
“Logic can get you from point A to point B. Imagination can get you anywhere.”
It reminded me of these two memes:
“Good girls go to Heaven. Bad girls go everywhere.”
“Religious people are afraid to go to Hell. Spiritual people have already been there.”
So Logic is a religious good girl, cautiously going straight to Heaven only; and Imagination is a spirited bad girl, boldly going everywhere.
For instance, take one of my favorite fictional characters: Miss Liberty. I have had the pleasure of employing her as a character in several of my poems and stories. What a trouper! Her energy is eternal delight. What she lacks in logic, she more than makes up for in imagination. Is there any doubt in anyone’s mind that Liberty isn’t religious at all, but she’s deeply spiritual? Of course Libby has been to Hell and back! She knows alllll about it!
