Does
Homo Sapiens exist?
On this blog I have
questioned the existence of God, money, white people, pro-lifers, and
intelligent life in the universe. Now I ask if Homo Sapiens exists.
The name means “wise
man”. Do wise men exist? Socrates the philosopher was called the wisest of men,
but he knew himself not wise; so he went about seeking wisdom in others, and
found little if any. So he called himself a philosopher, a lover of wisdom,
rather than a sophist, a wise one; for to love is not the same as to possess. By
the measure of Socrates, actually-existing mankind should be called, at best,
“Homo Philosapiens”; man the lover of wisdom.
Perhaps our far future
descendants will attain to some hard-won wisdom, but they will be taught by
Experience, the fool’s school.
So does Homo Sapiens exist?
Not yet. What to do until the Messiah evolves? Practice, practice, practice!
